Capacity Building of Central Bankers in Asia
From 2012, APPP, in cooperation with JICA, started to offer a training course for executives and experts of Asian central banks. The main purpose is to build their capacity for central bank policy-making and policy-management.
APPP initially provided the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) with Executive Training Course, DSGE Model Course, and Economic Analysis and Forecasting Course. From 2016, another training program began, this time for young staff of the Central Bank of Myanmar (CBM). From 2017, yet another training program was initiated, in which mid-level staff from ASEAN central banks are invited to Tokyo for a week.
In 2017, a successor project for the SBV was launched. This is a technical assistance project, in which APPP works with key SBV headquarters staff to help them improve their monetary policy formulation/implementation as well as economic analysis and forecasting.
These activities not only help the staff who receive training/technical assistance, but also enable APPP faculty to keep abreast of pressing issues and challenges that the central banks in the region are facing.
